About Michael Heikkinen
1990 BFA from the University of New Hampshire.
I moved to San Diego in 1997 and fell into North Park's 'Ray at Night' art community for a few years.
I ran a volunteer art program from 2003 - 2010, directing and participating in a variety of arts and performances.
In 2014 I was accepted into the Spanish Village Art Community in San Diego's Balboa Park, where I currently exhibit.
The beauty and majesty of nature can be breathtaking. Most of my images are from real places, either somewhere I have been or perhaps saw in a photo. Some images may be a combination of things from the real world, but there's always at least a little imagination thrown in. My goal is not so much to render exact detail as it is to capture the overall mood and feeling of the place and time.
My main influences are Maxfield Parrish - a New Hampshire artist from about a century ago, a dash of Impressionism, and a lifetime of Comic Book and Animation exposure.
